Rabbi Position Announcement

On Friday night, August 7th, 2015, I sat in the basement of a Lutheran church in Chicago's Lincoln Park that served as a gathering space for a new, explicit non-Zionist, Jewish synagogue. Here, a "congregation" without a space of its own has found an occasional resting place in a Christian church, a handful of whose welcoming members were there that Friday, celebrating the emergence of Tzedek Chicago as a "prefigurative" Jewish community oriented by a social justice compass... That night, I was in the church's basement to participate in Tzedek's first public Kabbalat Shabbat. Rabbi Brant Rosen, the liberal Zionist turned radical non-Zionist Palestine solidarity activist, led the service. However, the work of meaning-making, reclaiming, and innovating within the Jewish tradition has been a collaborative, communal project from the very beginning, from that exhilarating Friday through the community's continued democratic effort to envision itself beyond mere resistance.

On March 20th, 2024 (10 Adar II 5784), after almost ten years, Tzedek Chicago's founding Rabbi, Rabbi Brant Rosen, announced that he would step down from his position in Spring 2026 in order to make space for a new anti zionist rabbi to lead our community. Since that time the congregation has formed a Rabbi Search Committee, and that committee has embarked on the process of finding a new Rabbi to lead our quickly growing community into the future.

The Rabbi Search Committee is now proud to announce that we are now accepting applications for the next Rabbi of Tzedek Chicago.
