Programs and Services
Tzedek Chicago is proud to be a hybrid community, with regular in-person programming in Chicago and virtual programming accessible around the world. For the most up-to-date information on upcoming programs, please sign up for our weekly newsletter by scrolling to the bottom of our homepage.
Kabbalat Shabbat Service / Candle Lighting:
Fridays | 6:00pm CT
We welcome Shabbat every Friday evening with an online Shabbat Service led by Rabbi Brant, Cantorial Soloists Leah Shoshanah and Adam Gottlieb. (Our hour-long service alternates weekly with a half-hour long candle lighting.) Please contact admin@tzedekchicago.org for the Zoom link.
Shabbat Morning Torah Study:
Saturdays | 9:30-11:00am CT
Our online Shabbat Morning Torah Study is led by Rabbi Rosen and features an interactive discussion of the weekly Torah portion. All are welcome and no knowledge of Bible or Hebrew is required. Please contact admin@tzedekchicago.org for the Zoom link.
Family Education Program:
Every other Sunday | 10:00—11:30am CT
Join Tzedek Chicago families for joyful, liberated, and intergenerational learning every other Sunday morning at 10 am. We gather twice a month in Uptown for songs, play, and experiential learning grounded in solidarity with all oppressed people. Our program runs from the fall to spring of each year—email Aviva at aviva@tzedekchicago.org for registration information.
Midweek Gathering:
Wednesdays | 3:00-3:30pm CT
Our weekly online Zoom gathering is designed for Tzedek members and friends to gather together for support, connection and learning. Our half-hour check-in gathering will end with a Mishabeirach ("healing prayer") for loved ones. Please contact admin@tzedekchicago.org for the Zoom link.
Hebrew Learning Community:
Sundays | 1:00pm CT
The Hebrew Learning Community is a participant-led group of Tzedek Chicago members and friends who meet to explore a wide range of topics that are (sometime loosely!) connected to our developing understanding of biblical Hebrew. Hebrew understanding within the group ranges hugely, and no prior knowledge is required to participate. Currently, the group is focusing most weeks on the Book of Job. Announcements and notes on our learning are now shared through a Discord server. For more info and/or for an invite to the Discord server, please contact Glauber Ribeiro at tzedek-hlc@ribeiro.world.
Chicago Antizionist Reading Circle:
Third Wednesday of the Month | 7:00pm CT
Join us each month for a facilitated discussion, via Zoom, of writings that explore critical issues and perspectives on Israel/Palestine and Zionism. We discuss works by Palestinian, Israeli, and Diasporist Jewish writers such as Ghassan Kanafani, Mahmoud Darwisch, Amy Kaplan, Daniel Boyarin, Ghada Karmi, Ella Shohat, Sarah Roy, Mohammed El-Kurd, Ali Abunimah, and many more. To join, contact circle facilitator Lesley Williams at thecrankylibrarian@gmail.com. (Co-sponsored with the Chicago chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace.)
