Programs and Services

Since the onset of the COVID pandemic Tzedek Chicago has expanded into a global congregation, with active members throughout the US and around the world. To accommodate our expanded community, our services and programs take place online, via Zoom. When we do hold in-person events, we make them accessible to our entire membership as “hybrid” programs. Please refer to our calendar for up-to-date information.

Kabbalat Shabbat Service / Candle Lighting:

Fridays at 6:00 PM Central

We welcome Shabbat every Friday evening with an online Shabbat Service led by Rabbi Brant, Cantorial Soloists Leah Shoshanah and Adam Gottlieb. (Our hour-long service alternates weekly with a half-hour long candle lighting.) Please contact admin@tzedekchicago.org for the Zoom link.

Shabbat Morning Torah Study:

Saturdays from 9:30 - 11:00 AM Central

Our online Shabbat Morning Torah Study is led by Rabbi Rosen and features an interactive discussion of the weekly Torah portion. All are welcome and no knowledge of Bible or Hebrew is required. Please contact admin@tzedekchicago.org for the Zoom link.

Family Education Program:

Every other Sunday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Central

Join Tzedek Chicago families for joyful, liberated, and intergenerational learning every other Sunday morning at 10 am. Our program meets around the city in public parks, forest preserves, and member backyards. Each week we begin with Tefilah, (song/prayer), and explore a justice oriented idea rooted in Jewish tradition. Grown ups and kids learn together in this special family program beyond walls. Email Aviva at tzedekfamilyprograms@gmail.com to be added to our newsletter and stay up to date on locations and content.

Midweek Gathering:

Wednesdays from 3:00 - 3:30 PM Central

Our weekly online Zoom gathering is designed for Tzedek members and friends to gather together for support, connection and learning. Our half-hour check-in gathering will end with a Mishabeirach ("healing prayer") for loved ones. Please contact admin@tzedekchicago.org for the Zoom link.

Hebrew Learning Community:

Sundays at 1 PM Central

The Hebrew Learning Community is a participant-led group of Tzedek Chicago members and friends who meet to explore a wide range of topics that are (sometime loosely!) connected to our developing understanding of biblical Hebrew. The groups' understanding ranges hugely and no prior knowledge of Hebrew is required. For more info or to be added to the Google group, email songeveryday@gmail.com

Midrash Makers:

Every 2nd Thursday from 7:00 - 8:30 PM Central

Every 3rd Sunday from 3:30 to 5:00 PM Central

Join us for a warm, spiritual, interactive, participant-led online space to dive deeper into Jewish texts, explore contemporary interpretations, and share our own creative responses to Torah. No regular commitment or prior experience required - just a desire to engage with text and with each other! For more info or to be added to the Google group, contact Mark Simon at msimon@storywalkers.com.

Reading Circle:

Every 2nd Wednesday at 7 PM Central

Our Monthly Reading Circle features a facilitated discussion, via Zoom, on books/essays that explore critical issues pertaining to Israel/Palestine and Zionism. For more information, contact circle facilitator Lesley Williams at thecrankylibrarian@gmail.com. (Co-sponsored with the Chicago chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace.)

Healing Circle:

Sundays from 2:00 - 3:30 PM Central

The Tzedek Healing Circle is a weekly peer-support group that seeks to provide community and healing for people suffering from loneliness, shame, fear, anxiety, and other pain brought on by past and present experiences and patterns of behavior. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, all are welcome. Just grab your talking piece (any object with symbolic significance for you) and hop on. For more information, contact Kevin Carey at kcaccidental72@gmail.com.
