High Holiday Family Program Lead

Reports to:

Position Overview: 

Tzedek Chicago is proud to be a vibrant multigenerational community. This year, Tzedek Chicago will offer a family service/program for people and families with children the hour directly before Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services. This program will be on-site at Lake View Presbyterian Church. Ideally this program will have some combination of song, stories, Jewish learning, experiential learning, and play. All Tzedek Chicago programming must be designed in line with our core values.  

Position Duties:

Program Design

  • Create detailed lesson plans for both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Programs 

    • Lesson plans should include: goals, time stamps, intended language, supply lists, and set up/clean up directions 

    • Meet 1-2 times with Executive Director to review plans four weeks prior to each program

  • Provide a completed supply list to Program Administrator two weeks prior to each program 

  • Write copy for any information families will need before attending the program

Program Facilitation

  • Greet and warmly welcome all participants. 

  • Provide warm-up/check in activities before start of program

  • With the use of multiple modalities (music, movement, art, e.g.), facilitate a multigenerational family program from 9:00-10:00 on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur for the Tzedek Chicago community

  • Facilitate meaningful and relevant content, such as information about the holiday, cultural practices, and political grounding 

  • Responsible for all set up and clean up (including directing volunteers)

  • Familiarity and comfort with Tzedek Chicago’s community and our core values

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience songleading and/or playing guitar 

  • Experience working with intergenerational family groups 

  • Experiential education background, such as outdoor, theater, music, or art education

  • Basic Jewish cultural and religious knowledge, specifically regarding the High Holidays

Work Structure: 

  • This is a 10 hour position at $40/hr.

    • 1 hour to facilitate Rosh Hashanah Program

    • 1 hour to facilitate Yom Kippur Program

    • 3 total hours for set up/clean up for both programs

    • 5 planning and preparation hours 

  • This position reports to the Executive Director. The Executive Director will provide feedback and approve final program plans. 

  • Programs will take place at Lake View Presbyterian Church, 716 W. Addison

    • Programs begin at 9:00 am CT and conclude at 10:00 on Tuesday, September 23 and Wednesday, October 3

    • Prep work is remote
