Tzedek Chicago is thrilled to announce that at our upcoming Shabbat morning service next week, Sam Oliva (son of Leah Fried and Sam Oliva) will be called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah.
B'nai Mitzvah are certainly rites of passage for young adults and their families; as Tzedek Chicago's very first Bar Mitzvah, I'd suggest this will be an important rite of passage for our congregation as well. (That's right, our synagogue is growing up!)
I want to underline the point that these services belong to our entire congregation - and all our members are encouraged to attend. As we celebrate the first of many B'nai Mitzvah to come at Tzedek Chicago, we feel strongly about creating a congregational culture that views these milestones as communal milestones - not private family affairs. To this end, I'm genuinely excited for the opportunity to demonstrate to Sam - and each other - what community is all about.
You can find more information about our Shabbat service below. Heartfelt thanks to the Fried-Oliva family for hosting Shabbat lunch immediately following the service.
Mazel Tov to Sam - and to us all!
