Conversation and Concert with Yonatan Shapira

Tzedek Chicago is proud to present a conversation and concert with Israeli activist/musician Yonatan Shapira on Yom Kippur afternoon. This event is free and open to the public.

Yonatan Shapira is a former Captain and a rescue helicopter pilot in the Israeli Air Force. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah of 2003, Yonatan organized 27 colleagues to issue “The Pilot’s Letter,” stating their refusal to take part in attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

Since that time, Yonatan has become a prominent Israeli activist in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for liberation. He is a member of Boycott from Within, an association of Israelis who support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement from within Israeli society, and Mesarvot, a support network for Israelis who refuse military service. He has participated in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla on four separate occasions, in which international activists attempted to break the sea blockade on Gaza by sailing ships through international waters to deliver humanitarian aid.

Yonatan is also a singer/songwriter who has performed about 70 concerts throughout Israel-Palestine, the US, Norway and The Netherlands. His first album, “Numu Numu” was released in 2017
