Selichot Service and Film Screening

Saturday, September 1, 8:00 PM

Luther Memorial, Chicago

Led by Rabbi Brant Rosen with music by cantorial soloist Leah Shoshanah and Adam Gottieb, our Saturday evening service of forgiveness will feature prayers, poetry and meditations as preparation for the upcoming High Holidays.

Following our service we will screen the new documentary, "1948: Creation & Catastrophe," which examines the events of what Israeli Jews call the War of Independence and the Palestinians call the Nakba. This documentary was the last chance for many Israelis and Palestinians to narrate their first-hand accounts of the creation of a state and the expulsion of a nation.

As we move into a new year, Jewish tradition asks us to examine our communal responsibility to one another - and honestly face the ways we are collectively complicit in wrongdoing and oppression. We offer this one hour documentary and post-screening discussion in the spirit of the High Holiday season.

Please join us for a powerful evening of Selichot prayer, learning and conversation.
